The Big Disconnect: Digitally Plugged In, Humanly Tuned Out

A person lit by screen light, surrounded but alone

We live in an age of radical connectivity. Yet in the midst of this high-speed, hyperlinked world, many of us are quietly disconnected, not from others, but from ourselves. The first letter from The Field.

We live in an age of radical connectivity. At any given moment, we can reach colleagues across continents, join a meeting in three time zones, or share updates across half a dozen platforms — all from the palm of our hand. Yet in the midst of this high-speed, hyperlinked world, many of us are quietly disconnected, not from others, but from ourselves.

Gallup workplace report 2025

The newly released Gallup 2025 State of the Global Workplace confirms what many feel but struggle to articulate:

  • Only 21% of employees globally are engaged in their work.
  • In Europe, this figure drops to a sobering 13%.
  • 70% of engagement is directly influenced by the manager, yet most managers lack the support to lead from within.

The new Gallup data simply puts harder numbers on a softer truth: when people feel disconnected from themselves, no collaboration tool, AI assistant, or corporate perk can fill the void. Look behind the metrics and you’ll see it: add rising burnout, loneliness, and widespread emotional disengagement, and the message is clear: despite all our tools, teams, and tech, something essential is missing.

Why more software isn’t the answer

Technology can mediate connection, but it cannot manufacture it. Authentic engagement starts inside the individual nervous system and radiates outward — a lesson I first learned two decades ago from a Māori in New Zealand. My experience of a two-year journey with him I have now woven into the DNA of The NeO Frequency, together with the remaining 25 years of life and professional experience on four continents.

At The NeO Frequency, we meet leadership teams navigating precisely this paradox. They have the dashboards, the data, the strategies, and yet a deeper energy seems absent. There’s movement without meaning. Output without flow: the cost of disconnection.

This rising inner disconnection is also what drives leadership burnout, where leaders remain digitally connected yet emotionally and energetically depleted from within. When people are disconnected from their inner alignment, the energy they bring to others, to their teams, to their work and also to their vision, weakens.

Disconnection is an energy issue

Which is why at The NeO Frequency, we don’t start with tools or processes — we start with frequency:

  • Your natural rhythm.
  • Your internal coherence.
  • The living system that is your team and organisation.

We believe transformation happens when energy shifts. When leaders move from transaction to transformation, from role-play to real presence.

This shift directly supports organisational flow and performance, allowing teams to move from fragmentation to coherence and energetic alignment.

This belief comes alive in offerings like “Energy@Work!”, our immersive workshops and business retreats designed to help leaders and teams:

  • Reconnect with their inner and collective energy,
  • Shift from pressure and output to presence and flow,
  • And co-create organisational cultures that are as sustainable as they are successful.

In a world of constant disruption, this is no longer optional. It’s the new baseline for thriving.

Welcome to “The Field”

If any of this resonates, you’re already sensing the shift we stand for. This blog and newsletter is our first shared step toward a future where leadership is aligned with nature, energy is understood as strategic currency, and transformation starts from within.

We look forward to sharing more insights, practices, and invitations in the months ahead.

Because the future doesn’t belong to the most connected — it belongs to those who are internally aligned.

Empowerment: Regenerative Willpower & Boundaries

Regenerative leaders know power is not something to wield over others. It is something to tend within ourselves: the ability to direct life-force in ways that align with purpose, values and vision. Without boundaries, fire consumes. Without rhythm, energy collapses.

Emotions Are Intelligence

Emotional energy is regenerative. When it is acknowledged and allowed to move, it doesn't weaken a system; it nourishes it. A team that can feel together can adapt together, and that adaptability is where vitality lives.
